History

“…the world that then existed was deluged with water...”

In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas three times, dumping 51 inches of rain, causing $125 billion in damage, and destroying over 200,000 homes. It was the most significant rainfall event recorded in United States history. Harvey caused catastrophic damage throughout our hometown of Houston, destroying our home and upending our lives. For our family, it was just what we needed.

Harvey was the final chapter in a season of life that revealed the idols we had slowly erected in our household. These were good things — a beautiful family, thriving friendships, and a growing company — but we made them the source of our security and significance. What unfolded in the months after the flood was life-changing. We began the journey of facing our shadow-selves – the versions of us that were carrying wounds from childhood and baggage from the brokenness of our young adult years. Facing our shadow also involved delving into the generational sins of our families, as well as identifying the idols we made of our parents and children. As we have experienced healing, grown in our self awareness, and shared our story with others, we have never been more excited and grateful for the journey God has our family on.

Supra Solem is Latin for “Above the Sun.” King Solomon laments in the Bible that there is nothing new under the sun. We agree. But we also believe that God is working to make all things new, and that he invites us into his redemptive work. We look for glimpses of how God sees the world — above the sun — and want to partner with those who are co-laboring with God to make that vision a reality here on Earth.
